5 Tips Before Moving to UK

The UK has a lot, and we mean a lot to offer. Sightseeing, architecture, history, art, sports, gastronomic experiences, and so much more to fill a lifetime!

If you have chosen to move to the UK, you've probably found yourself a little bit confused and overwhelmed with all the different things you need to take care off before the big moving day comes. In order to make things a bit easier, here are 5 tips on the things you need to take care of before moving to the UK.

  1. Immigration – there are different kinds of visas you can have while entering the UK. From work visa to student visa, highly skilled immigrant visa, marriage visa, and more. In order to grab a better understanding on which type of visa you may need, you can visit www.ukvisas.gov.uk and start your visa journey.

  2. Health Services – the NHS (National Health Service) provides UK residents with free health care services with the exception of dental treatments, eye testing, and prescription drugs (however, those treatments are given for free for specific groups, such as pregnant women, children, and low-income households). For more information, visit www.nhs.uk.

  3. Education – those of you who are moving with kids in school age, will probably be happy to learn that the government provides free education for children between the ages of 5 and 16. Most of the schools in the UK are state schools (under the responsibility of the government) while some are private, or as they are called in the UK – independent schools.

  4. Tax - considering the fact that while you're staying in the UK you may find yourself being taxed twice - both by the UK tax authorities and by your country of origin (even if you’re a temporary resident in the UK), it may be a good idea to hire a tax consultant that can help you determine what your taxes obligations are and what can be done to mitigate tax liabilities.

  5. Bank Accounts – new regulations and security procedures have now made it more difficult to open a new bank account in the UK, especially for immigrants. It can take a while before you finally have an account in the UK, so it may be a good idea to make sure your account in your origin country has a UK branch that can be used for a while, until your account is approved.
